The Impact of Early Art Experiences on Literacy Development Wins Award!

Our recently released The Impact of Early Art Experiences on Literacy Development won second place in the Washington Book Publishers 2008 Book Design & Effectiveness Awards. The book, written by NAEA members Kathy Danko-McGhee and Ruslan Slutsky, impressed the judges in the Technical Text category, which includes how the typography choices and the presentation of data—in figures, tables, graphs, charts, photographs, and line drawings—drove the design. We are excited about this award, particularly because we took careful consideration in presenting the information in an easy-to-use format that would ultimately nurture and respect how young children and adults learn together.

Now in its 23d year, the Book Design and Effectiveness Awards competition recognizes, celebrates, and encourages excellence in bookmaking across the greater Washington book publishing community. The competition’s judges evaluate the excellence of each book’s design and effectiveness in achieving the publisher’s goals, meeting the readers’ needs, and reaching its market.
